How New Bands To The Music Industry Get The Word Out To The Music Fans

First, I need to give a quick Vegas Gary shout-out to two Bad A$$ bands!

Over the weekend I headed to my favorite hang in town. Count's Vamp'd in Las Vegas.

To see two of my friend's amazing bands. Children Of The Grave (Black Sabbath Ozzy Tribute) and Red Hot (Motley Crue Tribute), a new band making its debut performance.

Let's just say that both bands were RED HOT

Check them out and go see them!

With that said. It brings me to the subject of my blog post today.

How brand-new bands to the industry, get the word out concerning their upcoming events.

For a new band, getting noticed in today’s music landscape requires a mix of creativity, consistency, and strategy. Here are some tried-and-true approaches to help new bands to the industry reach a wider audience.

Social Media:

Focus on platforms where music fans gather—Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and X (Twitter). TikTok is especially great for music discovery, while Instagram and YouTube can offer both visuals and deeper engagement. And Facebook, everyone has a Facebook page, right?

Post regularly, using a mix of short clips, live jam sessions, behind-the-scenes, and storytelling posts that introduce fans to your personality.

Be sure to reply to comments, interact with fans, and collaborate with other artists or influencers for greater exposure.

Distribute Your Music: Use platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and other streaming services.

Submit your playlist to independent curators, genre-specific playlists, and editorial playlists. Getting on even a small playlist can drive substantial streams and new followers.

Utilize Spotify’s Canvas feature to add visuals to your tracks, and make sure your bio is optimized with keywords and links.

Make sure your videos look polished. A single visually appealing video on YouTube or TikTok can go viral.

If budget is a constraint, lyric videos or simple visualizers are more affordable but still help fans connect with your songs.

Encourage fans to make content for your music and share it—whether it’s covers, TikTok's, or artwork.

Play Regularly in Your Area: Perform at local venues, festivals, or open mics.

Collaborate with Other Local Acts: Build a network with other bands and play together to cross-promote each other’s fans.

As you grow, even a small regional tour can give your band exposure and get you featured in local press. (My blog garyengland.com) < Shameless Plug :-)

Reach out to local press, radio stations, music blogs, and podcast hosts. Even a small article or interview can be shared across platforms to reach new fans.

Find small brands that match your style and approach them for partnerships or sponsorships—especially if you’re releasing merch.

Create an email list with offers for exclusive content, early ticket access, or free downloads to keep your fans engaged.

Set up a fan club where supporters can access exclusive music, merch, or live-stream sessions. This builds loyalty and can create a sustainable income stream.

Host a live Q&A, do a song breakdown, or create countdowns for new releases.

Many websites and blogs specialize in emerging artists. Send your music for reviews or features on platforms like SubmitHub or Bandcamp Daily.

Get your music featured on shows that cater to your genre. These are often looking for new artists to introduce to their audiences.

Building an audience is a journey, but with dedication and creative, multi-platform engagement, your new band will make an impact on the music world!

Why Vinyl Records May Be Making A Hot Comeback To The Music Industry

Years ago (1970s- 1980s), I grew up listening to my favorite bands on vinyl records. Since the good old days, music has been presented in many different ways.

There were Cassette Tapes (1970s–1990s), Compact Discs (CDs) (1980s–2000s), and MP3 and Digital Downloads (Late 1990s–2000s), and today, fans listen to their favorite bands and music on Streaming Services (Spotify, Apple, and Amazon, to name a few).

Recently on Facebook, one of my good friends Joe Whitley (Joe Whitley & The Strays) mentioned that he was thinking of having his new music pressed and released on a vinyl collection for distribution. When I read his comment, I thought to myself. What a brilliant idea!

Joe Whitley

Here are my reasons for thinking that releasing music on Vinyl is an excellent idea.

Vinyl Is Coming Back Hot!

The resurgence of vinyl records is one of the most intriguing trends in the music industry over the past decade. What was once thought to be an obsolete format is now seeing renewed popularity, driven by several factors that blend nostalgia, sound quality, and cultural shifts.

Vinyl records offer a physical connection to music that digital formats simply can’t replicate. For many listeners, especially older generations, records evoke a sense of nostalgia, bringing back memories of flipping through album covers, setting a needle on a spinning record, and watching it play. The experience of holding an album, admiring its artwork, and even the slight imperfections in playback create a ritual around listening to music that is a deeply personal experience.

One of vinyl’s key advantages is its analog sound. Music fans argue that vinyl records provide a warmer, richer sound compared to the compressed audio of digital formats like MP3s. While digital music is convenient and can sound incredibly crisp, vinyl retains the full range of sound because it doesn't compress audio files. This allows for a deeper, more immersive listening experience that some say feels more authentic and natural.

Vinyl records have become a symbol of cultural cachet, especially in niche music scenes like indie, jazz, and classic rock. Owning records is often seen as a sign of deeper music appreciation, with collectors viewing it as an art form.

Vinyl encourages listeners to engage with an album as a whole, offering a more immersive, start-to-finish experience rather than skipping from track to track. This shift toward conscious listening has led to vinyl’s appeal as a countercultural response to the rapid-fire, disposable nature of digital music consumption.

Purchasing vinyl records directly supports musicians, particularly independent and smaller artists. In the streaming economy, artists often receive very little compensation per stream, but vinyl sales offer a more direct and substantial revenue stream.

Events like Record Store Day have also played a huge role in vinyl’s resurgence. These events bring music lovers together to celebrate independent record stores and offer exclusive vinyl releases that can’t be found anywhere else. This builds a sense of community around record collecting and gives people a reason to engage with physical music beyond just the listening experience.

Vinyl’s return reflects a desire for a deeper, more connected relationship with music. In an age where streaming dominates, the comeback of physical music formats like vinyl speaks to a longing for tangibility, authenticity, and a richer, more immersive listening experience. Whether driven by nostalgia, superior sound quality, or cultural trends, vinyl has reasserted itself as a beloved format in the modern music landscape.

And to my friend Joe Whitley. Pressing your new upcoming album on vinyl is a really cool idea.

And I can't wait to see what the future holds for you and the Strays

Famous Father-Son Duos In The Music World

This past Friday night, I headed to Count's Vamp'd to see two of my good friends' bands: Dr Rock and Danger Love. Two of the top bands in Las Vegas. Both bands perform a mix of their own brand of music with songs that are popular in today's music world. Check out their links below and go see them when you get the chance. They be BadA$$!

In a promo that I wrote for the band's event this past week,

I dubbed them as: "2 Generations That Rock".  (A father and son who are both performing musicians).

Dr Rock ( Freddie Paguio) is the father of the lead singer for Danger Love (Fredo Paguio)

I thought to myself, this is something really special. In my 25 years of being a journalist in Las Vegas, I don't think that I've ever seen a father and son perform together. The only father-son duo that comes to my mind is Eddie and Wolfgang Van Halen.

So, I did my research and came up with a list of some pretty famous rock stars and musicians that fit the bill. "2 Generations That Rock"

Let's start out with Eddie and Wolfgang Van Halen.

Eddie Van Halen: One of the greatest guitarists in rock history, Eddie Van Halen redefined what could be done with the electric guitar through his work with Van Halen.

Wolfgang Van Halen: Eddie’s son, Wolfgang, joined Van Halen as the bassist in 2006 and later pursued his own project, Mammoth WVH, showing his talent as a multi-instrumentalist and singer.

-----

Bob Dylan: A monumental figure in rock and folk music, Bob Dylan has been a cultural icon since the 1960s, known for his poetic lyrics and influential songs like "Blowin' in the Wind" and "Like a Rolling Stone."

Jakob Dylan: Frontman of the band The Wallflowers, Jakob made his own mark on the alternative rock scene in the '90s with hits like "One Headlight." Though he is sometimes compared to his father, Jakob’s style and sound are distinct.

-----

John Lennon: As a member of The Beatles, John Lennon helped revolutionize rock music. His solo work, including tracks like "Imagine," further cemented his legacy as a legendary artist.

Julian Lennon: John’s first son, Julian, had a successful solo career in the 1980s with hits like "Too Late for Goodbyes." His music is softer, but he often deals with themes similar to his father’s.

Sean Lennon: John's second son with Yoko Ono, Sean has carved out a niche in alternative rock and experimental music. His work with The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger and solo projects showcases his eclectic and avant-garde approach.

-----

Gregg Allman: Co-founder of The Allman Brothers Band, Gregg was one of the architects of Southern rock. His bluesy vocals and keyboard playing defined hits like "Whipping Post" and "Midnight Rider."

Devon Allman: Carrying on the family legacy, Devon is a respected musician in his own right. He’s the leader of the Allman Betts Band, which merges blues, rock, and Americana influences.

-----

Sting: Frontman of The Police and a successful solo artist, Sting became known for blending rock with reggae, jazz, and classical influences in hits like "Every Breath You Take."

Joe Sumner: Sting’s son, Joe, leads the band Fiction Plane, which emerged in the early 2000s with a sound reminiscent of his father’s early work but with a more modern alternative rock edge.

-----

John & Jason Bonham played together in Led Zeppelin and Foreigner.

Willie & Lukas Nelson, Phil & Nic Collins, and Ziggy Marley & Stephen and Ky-Mani Marley round out my list of famous father-son musicians.

-----

These father-son duos illustrate the diverse ways that rock’s influence is passed down through generations, with each son crafting his own path while honoring his family legacy.

Music Lives On!
